  25.            Quick Step Configurations for NetWare Lite and Windows 
  26.  
  27.      This document is a quick 'bulleted' reference for taking the necessary
  28.      steps to configure Windows v3.1 for use with NetWare Lite v1.1.  For
  29.      additional details refer to Fax Document 2601 (FYI.P.6054) for hardware
  30.      configuration or Fax Document 2550 (FYI.P.6122) for software
  31.      configuration.  The following procedure assumes that you are installing a
  32.      local copy of Windows 3.1 and you do not have the NetWare Lite utility
  33.      for Windows.

  35.      1.   If you are running SMARTDRV, ensure deferred writes are disabled. 
  36.           This is done by modifying the line to be:
  37.  
  38.                SMARTDRV C
  39.  
  40.                (C is the drive Windows is normally located in. This parameter
  41.                disables deferred writes)
  42.  
  43.                     Warning:  Do not run SMARTDRV (located in the
  44.                     AUTOEXEC.BAT) and NLCACHE (located usually in the
  45.                     STARTNET.BAT file) simultaneously!
  46.  
  47.      2.   If your LAN board uses upper RAM, ensure that the addresses are
  48.           excluded in the memory manager in the CONFIG.SYS.  Examples of
  49.           boards that may qualify are the following:
  50.  
  51.           ■    SMC Elite 16
  52.           ■    IntelEtherExpress
  53.           ■    WD Plus
  54.           ■    WD8003
  55.           ■    SMC PC130
  56.           ■    IBM TR 16/4
  57.  
  58.           Refer to your hardware manual to determine what range needs to be
  59.           excluded.  For example:
  60.  
  61.                DR DOS CONFIG.SYS:
  62.  
  63.                     device=c:\drdos\emm386.sys  /E=C000-C7FF
  64.  
  65.  
  66.                MS-DOS CONFIG.SYS:
  67.  
  68.                     device=c:\dos\emm386.exe    X=C000-C7FF
  69.  
  70.                or

  72.                     device=c:\windows\emm386.exe   X=C000-C7FF

  74.           Use a PORT address of 310 - 350 for your LAN board.  To adjust the
  75.           I/O address, refer to your LAN hardware adapter manual and then
  76.           modify the NET.CFG in the C:\NWLITE directory.

  78.           DO NOT USE interrupts 2 or 9 (2=VGA)
  79.  
  80.           Note: IRQ 3 or 4 may also cause problems.  ( 3=com2, 4=com1).

  82.           To adjust the interrupt, refer to your LAN hardware adapter manual,
  83.           then modify the NET.CFG in the C:\NWLITE directory.

  85.      3.   Add the following five SYSTEM.INI parameters in the [386enh]:
  86.  
  87.           ■    TimerCriticalSection=10000
  88.           ■    UniqueDOSPSP=TRUE
  89.           ■    PSPIncrement=5
  90.           ■    ReflectDOSInt2a=TRUE
  91.           ■    OverlappedIO=OFF
  92.  
  93.      4.   Modify the NETWORK= line in the SYSTEM.INI to include VIPX.386.  The
  94.           current line may look like the following:

  96.                network = *dosnet, *vnetbios
  97.  
  98.           After modification, it should look like the following line:
  99.  
  100.                network = *dosnet, *vnetbios, VIPX.386
  101.  
  102.      5.   Copy the VIPX.386 driver from the C:\NWLITE directory to the Windows
  103.           SYSTEM directory.

  105.           Example:
  106.  
  107.                copy c:\nwlite\vipx.386 c:\windows\system\vipx.386
  108.  
  109.      6.   CAPTURE and MAP resources as needed.  (Before entering Windows)
  110.  
  111.      7.   Start Windows
  112.  
  113.      8.   Open the Control Panel.
  114.  
  115.      9.   Open the printer icon.
  116.  
  117.      10.  Select the type of printer being used.
  118.  
  119.      11.  Select the CONNECT button.
  120.  
  121.      12.  Set the printer port to LPT1.DOS or LPT2.DOS (depending upon which
  122.           port you capture before going into Windows).
  123.  
  124.      13.  Turn off FAST PRINTING direct to port.
  125.  
  126.  
  127.      14.  Select OK.
  128.  
  129.      Optional: Turn off Print Manager.  This is not necessary but may be
  130.                useful as a troubleshooting tip.

  132.      Optional: Apply all current patches, available from the BBS.(See Fax
  133.                Document 2727 or FYI.P.6137)
